A state-championship rematch is the season opener nobody asked for and everybody wanted.
Some teams ease into the season. These two are starting with a title fight.
The South Oak Cliff Golden Bears open 2026 against Richmond Randle on August 28, and there is history stacked on top of this one: it is a rematch of the 2024 and 2025 Class 5A Division 2 state championship games. Randle took the first. SOC answered in the second. Now they settle the rubber match in Week 1.
Bragging rights, momentum, and an early statement, all on the line before most of the state has even kicked off. This is the storyline opener of the year.
