Amarillo Chasing History
The Sandies haven't won a state title since 1940. That changes this year or it doesn't.
Amarillo's last state championship came in 1940, when the Sandies won the 2A title with a 20-7 victory over Temple. That was 84 years ago. Before that, Amarillo won back-to-back-to-back titles in 1934, 1935, and 1936, giving the program four state crowns total.
The Sandies enter this season with that championship pedigree in their DNA but nothing recent to show for it. Every player on the roster was born long after the last banner was hung.
